What is Threading?

Threading is the art of using a cotton string to wrap around offending hairs and pull them from the roots. Choosing to get your eyebrows threaded instead of tweezed is smart because not only is threading faster but it catches many smaller and finer hairs which may be difficult to see. The number one mistake that women make when tweezing is that they tweeze too much and tweeze parts of the face that should not be tweezed

The art of threading has a nebulous past. In the Middle East threading was started centuries ago. The mystery is why has it taken so long for the practice of “Threading” or “Stringing” to reach spas in the United States. The August 2008 issue of “The Washingtonian” featured an article on threading and included a piece on our salon.

Anyone who uses medication, be it topical or oral, is better off choosing threading. This is true because waxing lifts layers of skin off the face when the whole point of this service is to remove hair, not skin. It’s not necessarily less painful than waiting or tweezing but it is more effective. Threading can be done to the entire face. This includes sideburns, chin, lips, forehead, and; of course, the eyebrows. After getting your hairs threaded, your skin may be pink or red, but will soon return to your original skin color. Depending on the person, the effects of threading should last anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks.
